Meta rally makes history as it goes on offensive with AI
Even in a market where artificial intelligence winners are rewarded, Meta shares stand out. The Facebook parent's record 16-day rally has been driven by all manner of news -- even the kind that has pressured its megacap rivals -- pushing its valuation toward 2 trillion for the first time. "I have long viewed Meta as the biggest beneficiary of AI outside of maybe Nvidia, and I think more people are coming around to that idea," said Conrad van Tienhoven, a portfolio manager at Riverpark Capital.
Robot to make history by speaking in House of Lords debate
The world's first ultra-realistic robot artist is set to make history as the first robot to speak at the House of Lords as she questions whether creativity is under attack from the rise of Artificial Intelligence and technology. Ai-Da will give a fresh perspective on the role of technology in creating art in the future, how AI art differs to what human artists produce, and the limits of technology in creating art. It will argue that while machine creativity presents a great opporunity for us to explore new ideas and ways of thinking, "there are also risks associated with this technology which we need to consider carefully". "We need to think of benefits and limitations, and consider ethical implications." Director of the Ai-Da Robot project, Aidan Meller comments: "Creativity is changing. Ai-Da challenges what it means to be an artist in a post-human world. "Her abilities as an artist brings into question the foundations of the art world and the creative industries.
AI robot Ai-Da is about to make history giving evidence to a House of Lords inquiry
Is creativity under attack from the rise of artificial intelligence? Who better to answer that question than Ai-Da, the world's first artist robot that has made headlines for her incredible paintings and sculptures - not least a portrait of the Queen to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee earlier in 2022. Later today, Ai-Da Robot will make history as she (she is far too realistic to call her an "it") gives evidence at the House of Lords as part of its A Creative Future inquiry, examining potential challenges for the creative industries and looking at how they can adapt as tech advances. It might sound like a scene from a science-fiction film, but in 2022 it's very much a reality. "The fact that Ai-Da is giving evidence at one of these sessions is pretty mind-blowing," creator Aidan Meller tells Sky News.
Ai-Da Robot artist to make history as the first robot to speak at the House of Lords next week
In a historic first, the House of Lords will host its first ever robot speaker next week. Ai-Da, a'realistic' robotic artist created and built in Britain, will speak at the House of Lords at the Palace of Westminster next Tuesday, October 11, at 3:30pm. Ai-Da has cameras in her eyes and is able to converse and answer questions using a specially designed AI language model. Addressing members of the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee, she will talk about whether creativity is under attack from AI and technology. She will also give evidence as part of an ongoing inquiry into the future of the creative industries, such as arts, design, fashion and music.

200 MPH Autonomous Cars Will Make History in World's First High-Speed Robo-Race
Back in 2004, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Grand Challenge paved the way for autonomous vehicle development. Now, some of the innovators who have competed in that challenge are taking things further as advisors for the Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC). Organized by Energy Systems Network and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, IAC is addressed to university teams from all over the world, who will compete for the $1 million grand prize. Hundreds of students from over 40 schools entered the first stage of the challenge. As of this month, the 10 final teams have been established, with more than 200 students from 19 universities.

NASA's Mars helicopter gets ready to make history
NASA is nearly ready to attempt the first flight on another planet. The space agency's small helicopter, called Ingenuity, has been deposited in a flat area on Mars, and it is running through a series of final tests before it tries to lift into the thin Martian air. Ingenuity's first flight was originally slated for April 11, but the mission hit a snag during a pre-flight test. While trying to spin the helicopter's rotors at full speed without leaving the ground, Ingenuity's onboard computer ended the test early. NASA says the helicopter is safe and communicating with Earth.

A.I. makes history by getting an 'A' on eighth-grade science test and passing 12th grade exam
An artificial intelligence system has made history by being the first to pass an eighth grade science test with flying colors. According to The New York Times, researchers at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Seattle Washington have cracked the code for test-taking computers. Its system, called Aristo, received a 90 percent score on an eighth-grade science test and passed with an 80 percent grade on a 12th-grade exam. An AI passed an eighth grade science exam with flying colors, marking a first for the technology. Scientists four years ago failed to get AI to achieve a passing grade.

Hottest day records set across Europe this year will soon be broken
If you suffered during the recent record-smashing heatwave across Europe, there's bad news. Such heatwaves are the new normal for countries like the UK, and we can expect even more extreme ones in the next few years, say climate scientists who have studied the event. "People say, oh this is historic and this will make history," says Friederike Otto of Oxford University in the UK. "It will probably not make history because we should expect that these records will be broken in the next few years."
Twelve Wins That Could Make History at the Oscars This Sunday
The biggest night in Hollywood is around the corner, and with it comes the possibility for a fresh batch of records to be broken and history to be made. Below, a few of the biggest Oscar milestones that may come to fruition on Sunday night. Outside of the technical categories, sci-fi movies have always had a tough go at the Academy Awards. With rare exception, they're usually overlooked for Best Picture--but depending upon who you ask, Guillermo del Toro's Creature From the Black Lagoon–inspired love story between a woman and a fish-man is the current front-runner (or close to it). Though their respective films, 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight, were crowned Best Picture, Steve McQueen and Barry Jenkins didn't manage to take home the coveted directing award.
